Glucose level a little high… got it down significantly with diet and exercise… came back up… Why?
Doc said avoid Diabetes 2… He said lose 20 pounds… I lost 30… followed strict diet… exercised about 5 days a week… My G.L. went down 30 points almost immediately… Although I have not changed my lifestyle, about 4 months later… it is back up to where it was when I started addressing it… I can’t identify the reason other than Glucose Intolerance or Insulin Resistance…? This is all new to me… does the reversal of progress start within a few months of the initial push to get the G.L. under control? I’m not taking meds now and prefer to avoid them if possible… Any thoughts in regards to why the increase after such seemingly significant progress?

Currently he has an Ascensia Contour by Bayer tester, and uses the strips also made by them. I couldnt seem to find any help on their site :/
Another tester is fine, or another kind of strip that would work with the machine.
He has no insurance or medicare. If we have to pay some it’s fine, just the full cost is a bit much.
Try e-bay. There are lots of different meters and test strips for sale on there. I just got myself some tests strips (I use the Accu Chek Compact) for a third of what I would have paid in a pharmacy (pharmacy cost would have been more than $300…I got them for just over $100…6 boxes worth).
You can also contact by phone the maker of the meter your boyfriend uses. Many companies are willing to help people out with test strips and such. Bayer is the maker of the Contour. Look them up and call them. You will get better results by calling rather than emailing. I did that once before with Roche. I told them I had no insurance and needed help with test strips. They sent me 6 boxes worth (more than 300 strips).

I recently purchased granulated Splenda to be used in a sugar free cheesecake per recommendation of diabetic co-workers. Upon reading the tips listed on the back of the package is the statement that the item should be consumed within 24 hours or the item should be securely wrapped and frozen. My question is: What changes occur in the item after 24 hrs? Does the sweetness evaporate or something?

The sweetness will not go away. They probably meant that the food is perishable and that if you are not planning on refrigerating it, eat it within 24 hours.
I would recommend refrigerating cheesecake right after you are done eating it though. Cheesecake is perishable, and bacteria can develop very quickly.

Has anybody had an overnight oximetry test done for sleep apnea? I had to get an oximeter from the hospital and wear it overnight (for a minimum of 6 hours) and then bring it back to the hospital the next day. Apparently normal levels are from 96 – 100%. Before I fell asleep, it was varying around an average of 96 -98. But then I fell asleep and woke up halfway thru the night to use the bathroom and noticed it had dropped down to only 82%. Obviously this is significantly below the normal range, but I’m wondering just how serious of a drop this is. Does anyone know anything more about this? Thanks!
Some of the answers from others may be correct, and some incorrect.
The Answer is this:
Although very important for detecting sleep apnea, oximetry is not the ONLY thing necessary to diagnose sleep apnea. There are several things that can cause an oxygen desaturation on oximetry. Sleep apnea is one of them.
A single drop in oxygen by itself is probably not too alarming if it lasts for a few seconds – this could be artifact. However, if it occurs every 30 seconds. This could be very suggestive of sleep apnea. But this could be obstructive or central sleep apnea – totally different beasts.
So, if there is any doubt about the diagnosis, a proper sleep study should be ordered – polysomnography.
