I have recently found out that I need to follow a sugar, wheat and dairy-free diet. I am not very creative and am having a hard time coming up with interesting meal ideas, I don’t need any dessert substitutes – it’s more the day-to-day meals.
I’ve been eating a lot of brown rice and chicken breast and vegetables (steamed and raw), but it’s time-consuming and getting boring now.
Another problem is that I don’t really have too much time to spend most days to cook – so I would love to find some recipes that are easy to make ahead and are easy to take to work or just eat when I get home.
I’ve looked at celiac and diabetic recipe websites but they still contain ingredients I need to avoid.
Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Is having a slow heart rate and blood pressure really bad?
I went to my GP to get a blood test. I want to find out if I have anemia since I’m always drowsy, tired, I have bad dizzy spells everyday and I have fainted twice from these dizzy spells, so I really want to find out what’s going on with me.
My blood pressure was checked and it’s low, it’s below 70. And my heart rate was slow too, it was measured at 66 (I forgot the units it’s measured in). Is this really bad?
You’re ok. If it was an issue your MD would have said something.
I started feeling sick very suddenly two days ago. My neck is stiff, my head feels like it is going to implode, everything is fuzzy, I can’t do anything but stumble around, the walls spin so badly most of the time all I can do is stay curled up in bed. I finally found a thermometer and my temp. is up to 104.2 degrees and I’m 24 years old. Bright lights hurt as well but I’m not sure if maybe I have a migraine? I have gone through every box of kleenex in my apartment. I think I might just have the flu so should I stay in bed and hope I start feeling better in a few days or see a doc? I’ve put it off due to cost and because I’m too ill to drive myself anywhere…so when should I start to worry? Is over 104 normal for the flu?
Anytime your neck is stiff and you have a fever, you should see a doctor immediately. You could have meningitis.
I never heard of a migraine causing a fever. Get to the doctor quickly!
Does METHADONE show up as an OPIATE in a 6-PANEL urine screening?
My cousin gets random urine screenings. She takes a RediCup brand 6-panel drug screen. This particular one tests for the following:
-Amphetamines/(AMP)
-Benzodiazepines /(BZO)
-Cocaine/(COC)
-Methamphetamine/(MAMP)
-Opiates/(OPI)
-Marijuana/(THC)
I know that methadone is a synthetic opiate, but I’m not sure if that means it will show up in a urine screen as an opiate (or OPI). Also, there is a 10-panel RediCup screen that tests for the six drugs listed above and the following:
-Barbiturates/(BAR)
-Phencylidine/(PCP)
-Antidepressants/(TCA)
-Methadone/(MTD)
My question is, if she takes the 6-panel, will the methadone she took show up as OPI, or does the screen have to be a 10-panel and display the methadone as MTD?
Also, how long does it take for methadone to leave your system?
Yes it will show up as an opiate initially. Then they would send it in for a confirmation test and it would show up as methadone the second time.
It takes about 3 days to leave a person’s system for single use. I don’t know how long for chronic use.
On the Young and the Restless how do you feel about Adam supposedly helping Mary Jane?
It seems like Mary Jane is looking for a friend to talk to. Adam can care less he uses people. He is looking to take advantage of the situation.
You are so right Chicken…….can I call you Chick?
Chick…………Adam is a user………he is pure evil……….Mary Jane on the other hand is mentally ill
Poor old Paul……..and Heather……….
Paul has a crazy sister
Heather will have to put her Aunt on trail….and prosecute her………..sucks for the William’s family!!
What is the point of living a healthy lifestyle besides looking good?
If I eat “bad” food and drink alcohol and smoke occassionally how much time does that really take away from my life? Maybe I live to 70 being a pig and a drunkard well how long does the “healthy” person live? Maybe they live to 90. It is not like healthy people live to 200 or something. What is the real incentive for living a healthy lifestyle cuz lets face it, it aint longevity.
Good point Shlomo.
Thanks Ned.
Well, i could not agree more. For me and you it can add or subtract a few years but for others those extra years make a huge difference. I guess most people are simply in a state of denail regarding death. people know their day will come but always think it is some time in the distant future.
I would say live a good life for 60-70 years that is full of fun instead of an extended boring life.
I am 15 weeks pregnant and I had gestational diabetes with my last child. I am going in for a early glucose test in two weeks, but the doc wanted me to start pricking my finger and testing now just so she can see what is it usually. The last few day I have been feeling shakey and have a headach and just can’t seem to control my blood sugar. The doctor never told me what a normal pregnant blood sugar should be. Does anyone know? It has been 60 before and right now its up to 210. Which way should it be, up or down?
The only thing with sugar I have had today is a glass of caffeine free coke.
I have type 2 diabetes and have since I was 2 and I am now 25 and have a beautiful 9 month old son. When you are pregnant the Dr’s don’t want you bloodsugar above 130, it sounds like they need to put you on insulin for your gestational diabetes. The was it was explained to me, that no matter how low you bloodsugar is (which from the syptoms you are describing it sounds like a low bloodsugar) the baby will be fine, but the higher your bloodsugars are it uses more of the oxygen in the amniotic fluid therefore taking away the amoniotic fluid from the baby which is not good. Feel free to email me if you have any other questions, and good luck.

How do you take blood pressure with a blood pressure monitor?
I’m with my grandmother right now, and she needs her blood pressure taken. She has a Target model Blood pressure monitor, manual inflation. I’ve done it before, and I think I’m doing everything right, but could somebody tell me how to do it? She can’t tell me because she’s too drowsy. It has a screen reading, but I do have to pump it myself, and deflate it. thank you very much in advance!!
I don’t know exactly what kind of blood pressure machine you’re talking about. Usually you wrap a band around the arm with a stethoscope underneath it, pump up the cuff to approx 180 mmHg, and then slowly manually release the valve that releases the air out of the cuff while you listen for beats. The first heard beat, as you look at the dial with numbers, is systolic, and the last heard beat is diastolic. I imagine this machine does the “listening” for you and gives you a read out on the screen. The only thing I can tell you is to pump it up till you see approx 180 and then slowly deflate it. The concern that comes to mind is your grandmothers drowsiness. Why is she so drowsy? Is it normal for her to take a nap this time of day? If the answer is no and you are having a hard time getting her blood pressure, my concern is that you either need to get an actual person over to check on your grandmother right now or call 911. My instinct would be to call 911, because by the time you call someone else, it might be too late for her. Paramedics will take her blood pressure. Don’t hesitate. Unless you have someone available right now to come check on grandma, call 911.
I am Avinash Sutar, 45 (height 5’5”, weight 72 kg), suffering from Diabetes Type 2 Mellitus since 5 years.
Lately, daily I’ve been suffering from low blood sugar (Hypoglycemia) in the evening at about 7-8am. I take Glimer 1mg half in the morning, Glucobay 25mg during lunch/dinner and Glyciphage 500mg during lunch/dinner. I also take Losar 50 which is prescribed by doctors for maintaining blood pressure, which is between 90/160.
What is the reason for this low blood sugar? I feel symptoms of it such as dizziness, headache. What should I do to overcome this?
One thing is your Blood pressure is way High.
Start on a low glcemic index diet. Too many carbs can send you high then you may crash to low glucose levels.
Heres what I would do. Start to exercise daily. It will lower glucose level, lower Blood Pressure and also Cholesterol.
A great Glycemic Index diet is :http://www.mendosa.com/gilists.htm
This table includes the glycemic index and glycemic load of more than 2,480 individual food items. Not all of them, however, are available in the United States. They represent a true international effort of testing around the world.
The glycemic index (GI) is a numerical system of measuring how much of a rise in circulating blood sugar a carbohydrate triggers–the higher the number, the greater the blood sugar response. So a low GI food will cause a small rise, while a high GI food will trigger a dramatic spike. A list of carbohydrates with their glycemic values is shown below. A GI is 70 or more is high, a GI of 56 to 69 inclusive is medium, and a GI of 55 or less is low.
The glycemic load (GL) is a relatively new way to assess the impact of carbohydrate consumption that takes the glycemic index into account, but gives a fuller picture than does glycemic index alone. A GI value tells you only how rapidly a particular carbohydrate turns into sugar. It doesn’t tell you how much of that carbohydrate is in a serving of a particular food. You need to know both things to understand a food’s effect on blood sugar. That is where glycemic load comes in. The carbohydrate in watermelon, for example, has a high GI. But there isn’t a lot of it, so watermelon’s glycemic load is relatively low. A GL of 20 or more is high, a GL of 11 to 19 inclusive is medium, and a GL of 10 or less is low.
Foods that have a low GL almost always have a low GI. Foods with an intermediate or high GL range from very low to very high GI.
Both GI and GL are listed here. The GI is of foods based on the glucose index–where glucose is set to equal 100. The other is the glycemic load, which is the glycemic index divided by 100 multiplied by its available carbohydrate content (i.e. carbohydrates minus fiber) in grams. (The “Serve size (g)” column is the serving size in grams for calculating the glycemic load; for simplicity of presentation I have left out an intermediate column that shows the available carbohydrates in the stated serving sizes.) Take, watermelon as an example of calculating glycemic load. Its glycemic index is pretty high, about 72. According to the calculations by the people at the University of Sydney’s Human Nutrition Unit, in a serving of 120 grams it has 6 grams of available carbohydrate per serving, so its glycemic load is pretty low, 72/100*6=4.32, rounded to 4.
I want to be a marine and serve my country, but i have high blood pressure,is there any chance i can join?
I take a medication to control my blood pressure, i test my blood pressure everyday and with meds my blood pressure is about 122/67 i’ve gone without meds for a few days and my blood pressure averaged about 135/85 to about 142/88. 142/88 was my highest reading. I am a senior in college(23y.o) and i want to join the military ( Marines or Navy) as an officer. What should I do? I can get off the meds, but i have been taking them for a few years, and they will show up in my medical records, will that disqualify me from joining? I appreciate your time and to all the men and women who served this country i thank you.
That is one that will be difficult to say. You will need to start by speaking with a Recruiter and work from there. Don’t be sureprised if they tell you no. Boot camp is a physically and mentally stressful environment, and they won’t have the time to babysit your meds. Sorry.

I am a diabetic my sugar is like a rollercoaster please help.?
I dont eat anything but pasta no sauces or anything I dont drink anything but diet drinks but my sugar varies from 400 to 50. My blood pressure is the the same way. I am taking insulin injections everyday 40 units and lisinopril for blood pressure. I keep yeast infections kidney infections ovarian infections. I dont know what to do. Please someone help my Doctor is foriegn and I cant understand a word he is saying I just nod my head I dont want to hurt his feelings but he isnt helping me.
You definitely need to change your diet – there are plenty of books around about low GI diets, though you may want to see a dietician to get someone to support you in making the change.
You might also like to look at a chinese remedy, Goji (also known as Lycium barbarum). I am insulin resistant, and a natural therapist recommended I take Goji. According to http://www.gojimedia.com.au/info/34reasons.php, “Goji has been used in China for the treatment of adult-onset diabetes for many years, and its polysaccharides have been shown to help balance blood sugar and insulin response. It also contains betaine, which can prevent fatty liver disease and vascular damage often seen in diabetics.” There is more information at http://www.gojimedia.com.au/info/diabetes.php
I buy my Goji online in a juice form from http://soundhealthwa.freelife.com
Italian Spaghetti with Bolognese Style Sauce A Healthy Recipe
Im 34 weeks pregnant! I had my last Docs Appoint. On dec 21 2010, when i was there after my routine check up, the doc said that my unborn son hadnt grown as much as the last visit (which was 2 weeks prior) and scheduled me for an ultrasound. I had to book an appoint. ( i did that today) and the lady said that She will get me in immediatly because i am on the “Urgent” list. WHY AM I ON THE URGENT LIST!? Im stressing and freaking out now because i am worried there is seriously somthing wrong with my son! But the doctor didnt seem too worried when he was checkin me out at my last visit! So what th hell is going on! Im so confused now, i dont know weither im on the ugent list because i am pregnant ( so i get in quicker) or if there is somthing really wrong IM SO SCARED please help me out!
Oh and btw i have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes does this have somthing to do with it? THX again!
I am 30 weeks an I am going to have a boy as well. I also have gestational diabetes an I am measuring large for my stage in pregnancy.
Ob/gyn offices take gestational diabetes cases very seriously wich explains the URGENT status of your scan! Try not to worry the more you worry the stress the baby will feel they just want to do a scan to see how he is developing an to make sure if there is something wrong (witch more then likely there is not) they can deliver him early an treat the condition. If he has a good heart beat an is very active he is a healthy baby. The growth of the baby is is measured by the ob/gyn just to make sure that he is functioning safe in the womb and is developing at a good pace if not they will worst case scenario deliver him early an make sure he grows an develops properly on his own outside the womb. I would ask the doctors office tomorrow if there open if they can explain to you why your considered urgent an that your developing anxiety because you don’t feel the office staff are helping you feel comfortable with what is going on.
Take Care & God Bless
Interview with Suzy Cohen about new book Diabetes Without Drugs
what can help cure a liver in beginning stages of cirrhosis (diabetes)?

why is antenatal checkups important in the first trimester?
What complications are prone to happen if Antenatal checkups are not done in the first trimester of pregnancy?
What are the complications in a Gestational Diabetic Mellitus, Pregnancy Induced Hypertension, Heart case and Obese Ante Natal mother?
Anything can happen if the first trimester test and check ups are not done. these test and check ups are for good reasons. basically to make sure that you and your baby are healthy. the blood test are:
Blood tests during pregnancy, Checking your blood group, Rhesus (Rh) negative blood and Anti-D injections,
Haemoglobin, Rubella, Syphillis, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV (AIDS), Urine test, Glucose challenge test for gestational diabetes, and Pap smear (Smear test). All of these test are vital in insuring the health of you and your unborn child.
Unlike type 1 diabetes, gestational diabetes generally does not cause birth defects. Birth defects usually originate sometime during the first trimester (before the 13th week) of pregnancy.
Infants of mothers with gestational diabetes are vulnerable to several chemical imbalances, such as low serum calcium and low serum magnesium levels, but in general, there are two major problems of gestational diabetes: macrosomia and hypoglycemia.[6]
For Mother
Hypertension
Preeclampsia
Increased risk for developing type 2 diabetes
For Baby
Macrosomia
Hypoglycemia
Jaundice
Low calcium and magnesium
Respiratory distress syndrome (RDS)
Increased risk for childhood and adult obesity
Increased risk of type 2 diabetes later in life
Why is pregnancy-induced hypertension a concern?
With high blood pressure, there is an increase in the resistance of blood vessels. This may hinder blood flow in many different organ systems in the expectant mother including the liver, kidneys, brain, uterus, and placenta.
There are other problems that may develop as a result of PIH. Placental abruption (premature detachment of the placenta from the uterus) may occur in some pregnancies. PIH can also lead to fetal problems including intrauterine growth restriction (poor fetal growth) and stillbirth.
If untreated, severe PIH may cause dangerous seizures and even death in the mother and fetus. Because of these risks, it may be necessary for the baby to be delivered early, before 37 weeks gestation.
you should really consult your OB about these concerns

Im studying Animal Management in college and i need some information for an assignment.. ive looked on a million websites and actually cant find any useful information for these:
Digital thermometer
Heart Rate Monitor Pulse Oximeter
i need to know how to use them, what it is basically, how it works and how you would use them in a major operation.
Thanks x
Digital Thermometer: Of course this is used to measure body temperature. Animal temperatures are generally taken rectally (and in fact some monitoring equipment have rectal probes for constant temperature monitoring). Temperature is an important factor with anesthetized animals. Often keeping them warm will result in an easier recovery post-op, and of course hypothermia (or hyperthermia if you are being overly aggressive with heating pads and hot water bottles and etc.) is always an issue.
HR monitoring was something I was always taught to do manually. Even when using a pulse-ox or EKG machine, it was always stressed that we needed to verify the readings manually and at regular intervals. HR is important because this is in indicator of the depth of anesthesia. If the patient is too deep, then the HR will drop (and eventually the animal will crash on the table). If the HR is too high, then this indicates that the anesthesia is too light, as an increase in HR is often a pain response.
Pulse0-ox machines (which are usually also heart rate monitors) measure the level of O2 saturation in the blood. If the animal is not breathing properly, or is too deep, or has any complications then O2 sats will quickly drop. Hypoxia can usually be reversed quickly and without adverse affects if it is caught early so it is critical to monitor O2 sats constantly.
Things to Look For When Choosing Oximeters For Home Use
I took a quiz online cause I think I might have it, and out of 26 questions 14 of them were things that I do/have. What’s the chance that I have sleep apnea?
about a 53.8 percent chance….if you got 14 out of 26.
Okay, recently I grabbed my iPod Nano 4G out of my pocket and Shuffled my songs. I didn’t like what I had (a Loquat song, for the record,) so I decided to switch it, right?
It went back to the beginning of the song.
I figured whatever, sometimes iPods have trouble warming up (mine’s click wheel only works after you have it on for like twenty seconds,) so I tried again.
It still went back to the beginning of the song.
So my problem is this. Every time I want to choose a new song now, I either have to stick it out, go back to the menu and hit shuffle songs again, or shake the thing like a diabetic kid with a Pixie Stix.
I haven’t dropped it, submerged it, or done anything to make its warranty void, but I did originally purchase it on eBay, albeit only slightly used in its original case, so I don’t think I can return it to Apple. What do you recommend I do?
You probably either have a glitch or cross-wiring.
Try resetting the iPod by pushing both the Menu and the middle button (button in the middle of the scroll wheel) AT THE SAME TIME until the screen goes blank (you should see it go blank in about 5-10 sec.) and the Apple logo appears.
I went on vacation to Disney world for a week and during that time my feet and anlkles swelled up from what I thought was a lot of walking. When I got back home I went to an urgicare clinic to make sure that I ad not injured my ankle or something and they did an EKG and chest xray and seemed really unconcerned about the fact that I did a lot of walking. They said that my chest xray looked OK and he did not go into the details of my EKG, but I did see on the sheet that it said enlarged left side ventricle. He put me on a “water pill” and told me to follow up with my DR within a couple of days. Of course my DR can’t see me for like a week. Should I be freaked out about this? My blood pressure was like 146/96. My blood oxygen was 98%. I have been taking this pill and lost like 12lbs in a couple of days. I missed a dose this weekend and I immediately noticed a gain back in water.
I am just curious if I should be freaked out, because I can’t see my Dr until friday?
I wouldn’t freak out so much at this point, but I would be sure to keep your appointment with your family physician to follow up. Sometimes on vacation, your diet habits change and you take in a little more sodium than usual, and you can retain fluid easily.
Your family doctor should recommend an echocardiogram, or ultrasound of your heart to make sure your heart functions normally and is nice and strong. This can also view your heart valves to make sure they aren’t leaky or tight (work properly). It can measure the walls of your heart to see if they are enlarged. (If he/she doesn’t order an echo, ask for one!)
Have you had any other symptoms besides the swelling? Do you get short of breath easily? Is it hard for you to lie flat at night? Do you have chest pains? Are you on blood pressure medicines? Are you diabetic? Smoker? Family history of heart problems? These are all things they should ask when you go for your follow up.
Otherwise, be compliant with your water pill in the mean time. Weigh yourself daily, and keep your follow up! Good luck!
