did Bulimia cause type 2 diabetes?

i have suffered from bulimia which after eating excessive amount of foods, i tried to use laxative to get rid out all of the food that i have eaten. It’s been a year… today on, i tried to eat healthy and feel great about it and want to practice as it becoming my habit. What I really concerned about is after a year of binging followed by laxative abuse, can this cause type 2 diabetes ? I’m really afraid… i have checked by glucose test a month ago and i’m free from it but few days ago, my hands feel numb… did i have diabetes ?

One of the factors in type 2 is a genetic link, so if either your parents,siblings or grand parents have had diabetes then you have an increased risk. Poor diet may be a contributing factor in the disease developing as well.
The only way to know for sure if you are diabetic is to see a doctor who can test your blood and measure not only your glucose level at that moment in time but it can also be tested to show the average glucose level over the past 8 -12 weeks(Hb1ac). All a finger prick test will tell you what you level is at a particular moment in time. If you think you may be diabetic see your doctor and get tested because the sooner treatment starts the better.

I have had type one diabetes for 5 years, and even though I have no intentions of having children in the near future, I read a book about pregnancy, and it really focused on the downside of diabetes and pregnancy. Even with taking good care of your diabtes during pregnancy, is there still a fairly high of risks/complications? Is there a MUCH higher chance of a miscarriage/still born if the mother has diabetes? What about birth defects?

Yes, I am pregnant and have type one diabetes and I had 2 misscarriages before this pregnancy related to my blood sugar and lifestyle. But my chances of having a healthy and normal baby rely soley on me to take care of myself and my sugar. You will need more prenatal care if you decide to have kids thats all. No birth defects are caused by diabetes just a larger baby if you have high blood sugar during pregnancy. Birth defects are caused by chromosomes in the DNA not diabetes.

Yes. Diabetes causes impotence in most men. Especially if its long-standing…
The autonomous nervous system in the body ( its nerves, specifically) get damaged and weakened and hence the men find it difficult to achieve and maintain erection.
This can be remedied by many medications like viagra etc but these need to be taken after consulting a doctor.
Also it maybe psychological since the discovery that he has diabetes may have proven to be a big shock to him. If this is indeed the case, then counselling and/or some form of psychotherapy can help.
Also try to see if he is taking any medications since many medications like those for hypertension etc are notorious for causing impotence.
I personally believe that some sort of professional counselling can go towards a long way in helping in your case since I understand that the diabetes was newly discovered and I don’t believe autonomic neuropathy to be the cause, at least in your case. So it must be mostly psychological…

Do DUI blood tests test for THC?

So I just got a DUI the other night in Scottsdale Arizona. I was celebrating my friend coming home after not seeing him for a while. We decided to smoke some pot and then go to the bar. Well I got pulled over a few hours later, and when they took me to the station they had my blood drawn. I haven’t smoked weed in months prior to this so I’m a little worried. Will The marijuana show up in my blood test? Will they even look for it?

They certainly can test for THC if so directed.

However, if you had not smoked in months, there would not be a problem. However, blood and urine readings would readily show if you smoked cannabis within hours, which in turn would be fairly easily inferred that you were under the influence of both alcohol (a legal substance, if illegally used) and cannabis (an illegal substance outright in most states unless under a medical prescription).

THC will show up as metabolites in the urine fairly readily after smoking cannabis, because the liver begins to metabolize the molecules immediately, breaking the molecules down and then casting them through the bladder. Parts per volume can be determined and then inferred as to how recent the cannabis was smoked.

Still being discerned by medical science labs and law enforcement is just what would constitute a dangerous and inebriating level of cannabis consumption when behind the wheel, as is already set for a person regarding alcohol consumption.

Your concern is now with both because you smoked cannabis within only two or so hours before being pulled over by the police, which can be picked up in the urine and the blood. And in conjunction with the alcohol, the authorities may take into account both factors in the DUI.

Your alcohol gradient is the primary factor, however, not the cannabis.

Could this be hereditary?

I tend to have urinary problems a lot, UTI’s, bladder infections, etc. I know these are caused by bacteria, but my uncle I guess, used to have tons of problems with his Kidneys, and I guess still does from time to time.
Diabetes also runs heavily in my family; people on both sides have it. I don’t have diabetes though.
I was wondering if there is some genetic factor here that could raise my risk of UTI’s, and Kidney problems.

You don’t say how old you are but it has been my experience that many women do not know that they should always wipe front to bad after going to the toilet. If you are already doing this, then make it a habit to drink a lot of water, limit your caffeine and soda intake, and be sure to empty your bladder completely when you void. It is doubtful that you inherited the problem from your uncle but you could have inherited a small anomaly in your anatomy that could make you more prone to infection. Unfortunately, unless it is something really obvious, you may never know.

given information : Carbon dioxide (CO2) and bicarbonate (HCO3) concentrations in the bloodstream are physiologically controlled to keep blood pH constant at a normal value of 7.4.

Hmmm, that question is vague. See, there are really three possible answers to this question based on whether you’re asked to account for acid-base buffering in the blood and renal compensation (how the kidneys react to changes in blood pH). So, I’ll give you the three possible scenarios:

1. You aren’t accounting for acid-base buffering or renal compensation; all you want to know is what the pH would be if neither of these occurred. Simply plug in the values you’re given, it’s that simple. pH = 6.1 + log (24/(0.03 x 23)) = 7.64.

2. You are accounting for acid-base buffering but not renal compensation. Simply, HCO3 levels in the blood change slightly in the same direction as the changes in CO2 levels because of the buffer system. For every decrease (or increase) in 10 mmHg of CO2 (normal value is 40mm Hg), HCO3 changes by ~2 units in the same direction. 40-23=17, so HCO3 would decrease by 3.4 units. 24-3.4=21.6. Use 21.6 instead of 24 for HCO3, and you get pH = 6.1 + log(21.6/(0.03 x 23)) = 7.59. This isn’t a drastic change from 7.64 as you can see.

3. Within a few days, your kidneys will have excreted HCO3 into the urine to lower the HCO3 level to restore the pH back to 7.4 (it’s never complete but it’s better than nothing)…w/ renal compensation, HCO3 changes by 4 units for every change in 10 mmHg of CO2. In this case, you’d have a decrease in HCO3 by 6.8 units, so your new value for HCO3 would be 24-6.8=17.2. Use this value in the HH equation, and you get pH = 6.1 + log(17.2/(0.03 x 23)) = 7.49.

Keep in mind that small changes in blood pH have drastic effects. Blood is usually always maintained between 7.3 and 7.5. So the values shouldn’t deviate too far from these. You shouldn’t encounter a pH below 7.1 or above 7.8.

My levels with fasting and after eating are ranging from about 5.8 to 6.9.

with the degree of inaccuracy of home testing meters, you should go see the doctor for blood work up.

5.8 x 18 = 104
american:
65 to 100 is normal fasting for most
101 to 125 is prediabetic
126 and above is fully diabetic

european:
3.6 to 5.5 is normal fasting
5.6 to 6.9 is prediabetic
7 and up is fully diabetic

Realize that there isn’t any standards for accuracy of meters!! They can be off more than 25% and still be said to be accurate!

We use meters tested against the lab reports to see what our meter’s accuracy is. When the lab draws the blood, check with home meter you are going to be using. Then look at the lab results page to see how accurate your meter is. Make the correction calculations accordingly.

I have one meter that is 25 american points high!! So if it reads 65, I need to have the ambulance in the drive way!

Just be a good kid and make an appointment with the doctor for a blood work up and maybe also a Glucose Tolerance Test. This will tell you for sure if you are becoming diabetic!

Change your lifestyle habits!! Walk or bike more! Eat fewer of the goodies of life including breads, cereals, pastas, rices, and some veggies! Eat more green leafy salad stuffs!
In other words: Be kind to your bod and make it last longer!!

Fasting Blood Sugar Test:
Measures the blood sugar level after 8 hours fast or overnight. Normal fasting blood glucose level is less than 100mg/dl. If your fasting blood glucose level is from 100mg/dl to 125mg/dl then you will have impaired blood glucose level also known as Pre-Diabetes. If your blood glucose level is above 125mg/dl then your doctor will diagnose as a patient of diabetes. To confirm the diagnosis, your doctor may repeat the fasting blood glucose test on any other day. If you have blood glucose level of 126mg/dl or higher in two consecutive tests, then you may have diabetes. If you have blood glucose level greater than 200mg/dl and you have symptoms of diabetes like increased thirst or hunger, frequent urination, weight loss, blurred vision etc, then you may be diagnosed with diabetes mellitus without confirming it with second test.

Keep checking everyday . Testing meters vary and may not be so accurate. I would gamble this is the problem. Maybe buy a new set of strips. If your strips are close to 90 day from the time you opened them , that could be a problem.

The “furry cuffs” you bought probably do not lock, if you can open and close them without a key.

Standard handcuffs (that would be non-furred ones) will lock when applied and require a key only to double lock them or to open them.

Sex toys, like you have, generally do not lock simply as a safety option.

what are some diabetic support products?

I want to buy some products for a diabetic patient like foot cream, supplements and socks.Are these products really helpful for type 2 diabetes? which are some good brands

It depends on which stage the disease is. Normally for type 2, there may not be big danger from foot injury hence socks for that may be. General creams may not be required.

As rightly said above, physical activity and control in diet is important. Less of sugary stuff like potato, banana, cakes etc.

A walk for 30 minutes daily in morning and evening is great help. Being out doors helps.

Can I just order a CPAP machine if I’m pretty sure I have sleep apnea? Do I really need a dr. sleeping study?

My girlfriend has watched me sleep, and is pretty certain I have sleep apnea. I am not insured, and a sleep study costs greater than the costs of getting a CPAP machine. So I’m thinking I might as well just order the CPAP machine, that will be necessary if the tests confirm that I have sleep apnea. What are the potential negative consequences of me just ordering a CPAP machine over the internet and treating myself?
I realize the standard is to do it through a doctor. But it’s a lot of money. And I want to see if there are any dangerous consequences to me just ordering the machine on ebay, and administering it to myself.

You will need to have a sleep apnea test done first. Depending upon what the result shows, the sleep apnea doctor will then recommend a treatment. A CPAC machine is one option. A special mouth-guard is another. A spray for the mouth is another option. There are others. If the doctor recommends a CPAC machine, then he will have to work out which settings are needed and that can only be made through the tests, as the previous answerer stated.

Can my doctor tell if I have been smoking weed without running and blood or urine tests?

I have only been smoking weed for about a month and I don’t smoke much at all. Maybe every other day, and it’s out of a bong so the smoke is not hot, or harsh on my lungs. But let’s say I stopped right now, and a week later I went to the doctor. Can he tell I did? If he can, how long after smoking about that 3-5 times a week can he tell u have just by looking at your trought or listioning to your lungs?

It’s almost impossible to eliminate the pain associated with lancets, as it is the only way to draw blood. What I would do if I were you is find a lancet device that has different settings. The settings determine how deep the point penetrates the skin. Also make sure you always use a new lancet when checking glucose levels. Lancets are probably the least expensive of all diabetic supplies.
