My baby is 8 days old. I noticed that as she sleeps, she will take a few quick heavy breaths, a few long breaths, then she will stop breathing for maybe 5 seconds, then all of a sudden she will take a few quick heavy breaths again. I looked up sleep apnea thinking it maybe that. I called my dr and he said all babies suffer from that and as long as its not 20-30 seconds, she is fine. but I still worry because I know that is a risk factor of SIDS. Has this happened to anyone? Heres the story. I got a chance at an internship for a good company but they drug test. So i quit smoking for like 6 weeks to pass the test. I went yesterday and took it and as far as I know my color and temp was good. However they asked if i was on any medications and i told them i was before for pnemonia that i got but stopped about 2 days before the test and they said that didnt matter but i forgot to tell them about the cough medicine (which has codine in it). and i took a sip of i think the morning of the day before the test. My question is what is the likelyhood that they will come back and say i have to take the piss test again?? Ive waited so long for this and i want to smoke sooooooo bad however if theres a chance i might have to take the test again 3 or 4 days is nothing compared to 6 weeks. Is it safe to smoke????
In a drug test they are not looking for nicotine from smoking so smoke away if you must. As for other drugs they are more looking for recreational drugs such as marijuana, cocaine, heroin and things like that. The amount of codeine in a dose of cough medicine would not be of alarm to anyone doing the test. It is unlikely they will ask you to take the test again.

He is type II controlled on medication but his fluctuating weight is the biggest concern because it seems to be affecting the other area that diabetes has a negative effect on (h-hmm!!!). These general guidelines work well for a person with Type II diabetes: First, watch all carbs, keeping them low with each meal. Any carbs eaten should NOT be refined (white bread, white rice, burger buns, things made with white flour); instead, the carbs should be whole-grain, which are digested more slowly and keep blood sugar from spiking (whole meal bread, oatmeal, barley products, brown rice, foods enriched with fiber like bran). Proteins do not tend to raise blood sugar (chicken, lean beef, fish) and neither do fats like butter and olive oil, though they need to be used moderately. Lean dairy does have some carbs but can be a healthy part of the diabetic diet (low fat milk, Splenda-sweetened yogurt, cheese). If your partner likes pasta, there is a brand that looks and tastes EXACTLY like regular pasta, but is enriched with a fiber that keeps it from raising blood sugar–called Dreamfields, available online. Veggies are mostly good for the diabetic, although potatoes are not (surprisingly, sweet potatoes are actually more carb-friendly than white.) Small amounts of fresh fruit, especially with whole grain cereal, are generally good. Nuts are a wonder food for diabetics, in that they are healthful and do not tend to raise blood sugar. Finally, beans have a lot of fiber and are also good. Avoid foods that have “high fructose corn syrup” as a main ingredient. That raises blood sugar. I hope this helps. Good luck!

You really should try using a netti pot. Many pregnant women get these annoying colds and it seems like nothing works. I have two kids and got colds while pregnant with both of them. Your sinuses are irritated. The netti pot might seem really uncomfortable at first but I’m telling you it makes a huge difference. The last time I was pregnant and sick, what the doctor prescribed wasn’t helping so I called the pharmacist and he said to try salt water/netti pot and wow what a difference. Be consistent and use it once or twice a day everyday. Also Ocean Spray ULTRA nasal saline spray works really well and it doesn’t contain any medicine so you can use it as much as you want. I have tried many saline sprays and to me the ocean spray brand works best. Drink LOTS and LOTS of liquids and eat chicken soup and drink the broth. PS…..you don’t have to buy a netti pot, you can use a syringe or just sniff the salt water out of a bowl. no, headaches and migraines are two different things. You didn’t ask about migraines but I’ll answer that anyway, if it was a migraine then yes. For some people that can have serious effects on their body, I had a professor in college that couldn’t even get out of bed when she had a migraine. If it was just a simple headache then I’d give them tylenol or advil and send them on their way, telling them they can go to the nurse if it gets worse.
Using a CPAP cause sleep apnea if you may no longer need to use one?
When I was first diagnosed with sleep apnea in the summer of 2005 I eighed 280lbs and smoked 1 1/2 packs of cigarretts a day. I had 117 episodes per hour. I was given a CPAP machine set at a pressure level of 10. Since then I have quit somking, over a year know, and now weigh 225lbs on my way to 200lbs. I am still using the CPAP though set at the same pressure. The problem is I am starting to feel tired again during the day. Not to the level it was before I started therapy, but I can feel a difference. I made an appointment with my doctor but the earliest she can see me is July. I was wondering if anyone knew if I am actually causing sleep apnea or something similar by using the machine?
In general, no if your CPAP machine is too high it will not cause you to have obstructive apneas. It could be causing you to have more arousals. And this is differently the reason that you feel more tired than normal. I don’t understand why your doctor can not get you in to see her until July, I would call and request to talk with her. B/c it seems that you would need to have a CPAP Retitration to firgure the amount of cm you need. Congratulations on quiting smoking.

Does the D.O.T. allow insulin-dependant diabetics to get their CDLs? My boyfriend was planning on getting his CDL and then he was diagnosed with diabetes. He has to take daily insulin shots. His treatment and his disease don’t really interfere with his life. So, no comas, no seizures, or anything like that. He’s heard that means he can’t drive a truck, and he’s seriously bumming. Is this true? Or is that considered discrimination? Does the D.O.T. have guidelines covering health issues for drivers? Thanks for your help!
Well, he doesnt have any “attacks” he doesn’t have seizures, or any black outs. He just does a daily shot of insulin, takes metformin and avandia. He doesn’t use an insulin pump, those guys who have “Attacks” usually rely on an insulin pump. It hasn’t progressed that far yet.
Check with your state DOT. rules may differ from state to state or even company to company. Trucking companies may have problems with drivers because being on the road all the time may keep him from maintaing his insulin supply, hence the side effects. Rules may differ with diabetics who are insulin dependent and diabetics who are not.

My mother had Gestational Diabetes when she gave birth to her last child at the age of about 46, so my doctor tested me at my 3 month appointment. I’ve just returned from vacation to learn that my results were “abnormal”. Mine was abnormal for the one hour and normal for the three hour. Apparently it happens to a lot of women. I would try not to worry and follow your doctor’s orders as far as not eating 8-12 hours before the test. Good luck!
